Artistic vision:

I am interested in working interdisciplinarily, especially combining text/sound, movement and visual arts.

Feeling inspired by Nature, Daoist philosophy, Qigong/Taiji, and the contrasts and paradoxes that are present all the time, I also draw inspiration from the city and the street.

With a dance background in Ballet, contemporary dance, somatics and Breakdance/Hip Hop, and a strong interest in multi-perspectivity, I am trying to look at movement and creation from different points of view.

Gestures and daily actions are movement vocabularies I like to use and explore in my works, wishing my audience to be able to relate to my creations more easily. Another present aspect in my movement vocabulary is the play with imagination.

One of my main goals is to ignite communication with the audience. This I usually like to approach with a genuine connection through the gaze and a dramaturgy that leads deeper into my world of ideas, leaving space for each audience member to let their imagination flow.

In my work, I always ask myself: How can I transmit an idea or a question through the performing arts so that the audience leaves the theater with more questions than before — and with a renewed curiosity for their own body, movement, dance, and art?

Marita Schwanke discovered her passion for dance in early childhood — first through ballet, and later through contemporary dance.

She now continues exploring her passion for dance and movement through Breakdance and Taiji.

Marita studied contemporary dance and choreography, first at ArtEZ in Arnhem and later at PARTS in Brussels.

She learned repertoire pieces from ROSAS, TRISHA BROWN, LUCINDA CHILDS, and KATJA HEITMANN, and has been part of new creations by international artists (e.g., Moya Michels, Tamara Cubas). Marita also focused on creating her own work.

In 2022, Marita graduated with a Bachelor of Arts.

Since then, she has been working as a freelancer on various projects while also performing her own works. Marita began developing her artistic practice "Allowing for Space", inspired by Eastern principles and practices as well as different Western mindful techniques, which she continues to explore. Throughout her artistic trajectory, Marita has had the good fortune to be mentored by dancer and dance maker Eva Karczag, whose approach to body and dance is a major inspiration for her.

In 2022, she also began collaborating with her partner, Adem Ouhaibia, on his ongoing research project “Breaking Technologies.”

In 2025, Marita obtained a diploma as a Fascia and Dance Therapist from the Body-Mind Academy in Brussels and started her official teacher training at the School for Internal Martial Arts Xuan in Berlin.
