Yoga is a holistic practice that combines physical postures, breathing techniques, meditation, and ethical principles to promote balance between body, mind, and spirit.
It originated in ancient India thousands of years ago as a spiritual discipline, described in texts such as the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and the Bhagavad Gita. Today, yoga is practiced worldwide in many forms — some focus more on physical fitness and flexibility, while others emphasize meditation, relaxation, and self-awareness.
The word yoga comes from the Sanskrit root yuj, meaning “to join” or “to unite.”
In my yoga classes, you will find influences of Hatha Yoga, Iyengar Yoga, as well as my Taiji and Pilates practice. The classes consist of a short sitting meditation, breathwork, and different asanas or asana flows. The main goal is to provide deeper awareness and understanding of the body, especially regarding alignment, deep breathing, and body–mind balance. Strengthening the whole body, while at the same time softening it, is also an essential purpose of the class.
